We decided to compress Theatre on Wheels into a one week course and also to extend the age range downwards to include a small number of our junior youth theatre members, and upwards to include the some of the large number of theatre trainees/graduates who apply to work with the company on a voluntary basis. We used three locations – our portable four seater Victorian theatre, a car and a van. The extended age range (7-21) was a huge success, as older members could write and direct as well as perform. Twelve pieces were presented in total, with audiences hopping between the spaces.

It was a great opportunity to reach new audiences, introduce the wider community to the scope of Big Telly’s work and to offer graduates a unique training opportunity.

SUMMER 2011 NEWS

Theatre on Wheels is a unique drama programme building to a spectacular festival of small pieces of theatre in three unusual small spaces – a car, a van and a miniature theatre (which is a perfect replica of a Victorian Theatre).

Theatre on Wheels will run from Monday 8th – Saturday 13th Aug 2011 in Portstewart from 2pm-5pm. Saturday 13th Aug will be the festival day.
