Mill Strand Voyage

In 2008, almost two hundred pupils from Mill Strand Integrated Primary School in Portrush took part in a unique theatrical adventure to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the school.

Themed around journeys and inspired by the sea, the whole school participated in beach-combing trips, arts & crafts sessions and workshops in drama, movement & creative writing, which culminated in an innovative piece of promenade theatre exploring the voyage of the school and integrated education.

The finale of the piece was a procession to the West Strand beach on Wednesday 25th June 2008, where the pupils launched thirty handcrafted boats created from materials found on the beach, each with a sail containing the thoughts, dreams and vision of the pupils.

This inter-disciplinary arts project was created in association with Big Telly Theatre Company and supported through Awards for All.
