Big Telly is introducing a new concept called Live Ads, short pieces of theatre designed to advertise a product or service on behalf of a commercial business. Live Ads will be created in collaboration with company employees and so this is also a unique creative training opportunity for all levels of staff to engage with the business’s core values and the image it wishes to project.
There are two types of Live Ads available; the first will be presented in Big Telly's portable theatre sited in busy commercial areas around Belfast and Derry/Londonderry and promoted as part of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s. As this is a pilot scheme, its impact will be monitored and assessed by an external evaluator.
In October 2010, Big Telly was
commissioned by Ulster Bank to create an advertisement to
promote the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s. The objective of this project was to ascertain the effectiveness of Live Ads as a
promotional tool and to establish its impact on audiences.

The positive impact of the Live Ad on both the Ulster Bank and the Belfast
Festival at Queen’s was summed up in the following words by Laura Wells,

Live Ads will also take place within theatres alongside the West End transfer and Irish tour of our critically acclaimed production PUCKOON, based on the book by Spike Milligan which having already received great feedback during its all Ireland tour in 2009, represents a lower risk to business than a brand new piece. The style of this show is also quite spontaneous and quirky, which creates an ideal context in which to present the Live Ads. as part of a theatre show. Due to the innovative nature of this project, considerable media interest is anticipated.
