Comedy Hijack
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO PRESENT FIFTEEN FREE MINUTES OF COMEDY TO STAFF, CLIENTS OR CUSTOMERS.
Big Telly is giving away free samples of theatrical comedy to managers who wish to liven up a conference, create a stir in the staffroom or surprise an unsuspecting audience. The fifteen minute performance will contain five different pieces of theatre each created by a different writer, performed by highly experienced professional actors and directed by Big Telly’s Artistic Director Zoe Seaton and John Wright, one of the UK’s leading theatre practitioners, founder of TRESTLE THEATRE COMPANY AND TOLD BY AN IDIOT, AUTHOR OF WHY IS THAT SO FUNNY?
The Comedy Hijack (11th, 12th and 13th November 2010)
The performance can take place in any location within the Belfast area, requires no set up time and will be performed six times each day by four actors. It can happen at the start of a conference, in the middle of a meeting, in a foyer or at the end of a lecture. This is a ground-breaking market research project, designed to test drive new comedy writing in front of as broad a range of adult audiences as possible. It’s the theatrical version of a TV pilot, and reflects both Big Telly’s confidence in its creative team and our commitment to the accessibility of theatre.
Why?
Big Telly wishes to encourage writers to develop plays which are both theatrical and funny. The company believes that there is a market for intelligent comedy and inventive theatre, and that an increase in this type of work will be a robust and strategic way to introduce new writing to new audiences. The company wishes to create a process which places the audience at the centre of the work by creating an open and honest dialogue between theatre-makers and the public. The process is designed to engage with groups of people who are not traditional theatre-goers.
