The Shadow of the Glen
&
The Tinker's Wedding

By J. M. Synge
Directed by Zoë Seaton

Big Telly has done it again with these two outrageously wicked comedies revolving around marriage - one on the cards and the other on the rocks... and continues its series of popular Irish Classics with a touring production of the two plays by J.M. Synge.

In The Shadow of the Glen, Dan Burke is convinced that his wife, Nora is playing away so he fakes his own death, waits for proof and scuppers her plans. However Nora leaves with her head held high on the arm of a not so perfect stranger.

In The Tinker's Wedding, Sarah Casey is desperate to marry Michael Byrne. This seems mad to the tinkers, but the spring is a queer time, and the moon is changing, and that must account for her whim. Despite heaps of scorn and derision from his mother, Michael is prepared to go do the dirty deed and make Sarah an honest woman. A deal is struck with the local priest, who agrees to marry them for half the normal fee. But when he goes back on his word, he feels the full fury of the tinkers and realizes that these people are not to be taken for granted.
