How We Store Information
When we collect information like email addresses or other stuff that is more personal, there are certain ways we are required to store that data. Databases and contact details are saved on our password protected computer drives in our office. Our computers run Sophos security software which means they cannot be accessed without the correct password. Our offices are securely locked when we are not here, as is the venue we are based in. Our information is also backed up each day and is securely stored on external cloud drives with our system providers RightClickIT Ltd. We are very confident that all information held on our system is as secure as we can make it.
Honestly speaking, sometimes we’re not entirely sure what they are either. But we know that our website, like all websites, use them. Very occasionally (and not as often as we should), we may use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. When someone visits www.big-telly.com, we can have a look at Google Analytics to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information does not identify anyone. We don’t make, and don’t allow Google to make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. But keeping an eye on it means we can get some idea of what stuff is most interesting to people on our site for example, we can keep our site interesting, fresh and (hopefully) relevant to regular and new visitors.
As part of the sign up for our e-newsletter, we ask you to submit some personal information. We use that information for a couple of reasons: we really want as many people as possible to know about our work and what we’re doing in theatres and communities in Northern Ireland. It’s also to tell you about stuff you’ve asked us to tell you about; to contact you if we need to get or give additional information; to check our records are right and to check every now and then that you’re alright with everything we’re doing. Seriously, we love to hear from you. We NEVER trade email lists with other organisations and businesses. Your details and contact details stay strictly with us.
We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter. We can collect statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. We’re not particularly good at remembering to do this, but we have to tell you that we can. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice.
We’d rather you tell us if we’re not getting something right, or you think we could improve something. But you can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time of the day or night by simply clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing our data protection administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org
Just who are third parties anyway?
OK, so Big Telly is a charity – so for our shows or events, we never sell tickets, so we will never have any financial info about you. But because we are funded by various bodies, such as the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, we are required to share certain anonymous information. Funders use this kind of info to analyse our programmes, and self-generated funding to understand the impact of the public investment made in Big Telly. Also, to check that we’re doing some great stuff and loads of people are seeing it. We have different funders for different projects. This data never includes names, emails or contact details. Ever. It might include geographical area, age, gender and disability.

The only ‘third party’ we share with are the nice ones that support our creative work. That’s it.
Access to Your Personal Information
Under GDPR, you have the right to access and amend any of your personal data that Big Telly has. So, any time you want to know what we got, or change, or even delete your information – all you have to do is say so.

Changes to this Privacy Notice
We will have a look back at this policy from time to time and see if there’s anything we need to add to make it better. If we make any big old changes to it that may affect how we deal with personal information, we will tell you about it. It’s worthwhile having a little peek every now and then yourself – especially if you’re about to hit that subscribe button, which we hope you will.
