Big Telly would like to make it possible for children to feel what it's like to actually participate in a creative experience in such an unusual location as a swimming pool. Groups will be able to follow their visit to The Little Mermaid with a unique opportunity to get in the pool and explore the pieces of set, water sculptures and special effects. They will be able to try on some of the costumes and headdresses and experiment with the puppets and props. The session will be co-ordinated by the company's choreographer who will work with the participants to create their own mini-version of The Little Mermaid. The group will also be shown how the special effects were created and encouraged to dream up their own ideas. By setting a theatre production in swimming pools the company is challenging the perception that imaginative work belongs in and can only take place in a designated 'artistic' environment.
