Synopsis

Marketing & Business Development Officer

Part-time temporary (20 hrs per week from w/c 1st December 2014 – with potential to go full time to cover a maternity leave from March 2015).

Salary dependent on experience.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team of one of Northern Ireland’s leading theatre companies. Big Telly Theatre Company based in Portstewart require a Marketing & Business Development Officer to play a fundamental role in implementing the company’s business development and marketing strategies to meet targets for audience development and engagement.

Big Telly is the longest established professional theatre company in Northern Ireland and registered charity (registration no. XR22007). The company’s range and scale of work is unparalleled, with its reputation for innovation built upon distinctive professional theatre productions which tour nationally and internationally; creative collaborations; and pioneering community-based participation projects.

Big Telly is one of the largest theatre employers in Northern Ireland, and a typical annual programme of work includes two original theatre productions which tour nationally, a year- long outreach programme with older people including five to ten productions and 700 workshops, at least three community based events, and projects with five to ten local schools and one or two collaborations with the business community and an on-going youth theatre creating site- specific and street theatre.

For the past two years, we have been running The Box in Portstewart, an empty bank reclaimed as an informal cultural space. The pilot ‘Creative Shops’ programme has had a transformative effect on the town, bringing substantial economic and social benefits. With thanks to the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, we are now extending this programme across Northern Ireland.

Over the last 10 years Big Telly has reached audiences totaling c. 90,000 through touring productions and c.30,000 participants through outreach and educational programmes.

Key responsibilities of Post Holder:

· To support the development of the Marketing and Business Development function.

· To take responsibility for specific marketing campaigns and projects within the company.

· To actively seek opportunities for and to develop business opportunities, resulting in growth and retention of Big Telly audiences.

Main Duties:

Strategy/ Campaigns

· To assist with implementation of the marketing strategy with specific objectives and targets as agreed.

· Take responsibility for specific campaigns as directed by Big Telly’s Artistic Director & General Manager

· Maintain liaison with external and internal suppliers, assisting in production, delivery and distribution of all marketing materials.

· Provide creative copy writing and accurate proof reading skills.

Business Development/ Partnership marketing

· Assist in management of current relationships with partner organisations – maximising all opportunities.

· Source new partners for Big Telly and develop relationships with existing partners.

· Set sales/ engagement targets and ensure they are met for all Big Telly shows/ events and activities.

· Generate monthly reports of business generated through promotional activities and new business opportunities and provide updates as required.

Database management, Direct & E-marketing

· Working with Big Telly core team to determine data selections and schedules for all mailings.

· Ensure Big Telly mailing / contact lists are maintained to a high standard always maximising opportunities for sign up.

· Ensure effective online communications across all relevant Big Telly platforms i.e.website and social media.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

Big Telly is open to considering applications from candidates of all levels of experience as long as they can clearly demonstrate an ability to:

PLAN, ORGANISE, DECISION-MAKE & BUILD and MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS

The candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have taken a lead role in the implementation of a broad spectrum of marketing activities, together with the creation of networking activities and systems designed to develop new business from both existing and new business channels.

Candidate should be highly motivated self-starters with good IT skills and a not afraid of getting ‘stuck in’ attitude. They will be articulate, creative and have excellent written and oral communication.

The post holder will need to work effectively across internal and external stakeholders and audiences, representing Big Telly effectively and professionally at all times. Ideally the candidate would have a good knowledge of the Northern Ireland arts marketplace and come with some ideas on how to forge good working relationships in the sector.
